FAQ
How do I book a photography session with Seaside Photography Hawaii?
Booking your Hawaii beach photography session is simple. Fill out the contact form on this page with your preferred date, the type of session you're interested in, and a little about what you're envisioning. I respond to all inquiries within a few hours — usually faster. A $75 deposit is required to secure your date, which is applied toward your total session fee.
What is your deposit and cancellation policy?
50% non-refundable deposit is required to hold your Hawaii photography session date. The deposit is applied to your total balance, which is due on the day of your session. Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice forfeit the deposit. Rescheduling is available once with at least 48 hours notice, subject to availability. In the event of severe weather, I will reschedule at no additional cost.
What should we wear for our Hawaii beach photo session?
For beach sessions in Hawaii, think light, relaxed, and effortless. Flowy dresses, linen shirts, and soft neutral tones photograph beautifully in natural Hawaiian light. Earth tones, whites, creams, and pastels work especially well at golden hour. Avoid busy patterns, large logos, or overly matching coordinated outfits. After booking, I'll send every client a detailed style guide with specific recommendations for Hawaii beach sessions so you feel completely confident and prepared.
I've never had professional photos taken before. Will I feel comfortable?
Always. One of the most common things I hear after a session is "that was so much easier than I expected." My approach as a Hawaii portrait photographer is built around making you feel completely at ease. I give natural, gentle guidance so you never feel lost or stiff, and I promise the biggest challenge will be choosing your favorite photos from the gallery.
What happens if it rains on the day of our Hawaii photo session?
Hawaii weather is famously unpredictable — and that's actually part of its magic. Soft overcast light and light rain can create some of the most dramatic and beautiful photography conditions on the island. Sessions proceed in light rain and cloud cover, which often results in stunning, moody images with gorgeous diffused light. In the event of severe weather, lightning, or unsafe conditions, I will reschedule your Hawaii beach session at no additional charge.
Can we print our Hawaii photos?
Yes — all images are delivered at full print resolution and are ready to print at any size. You're welcome to use any print lab or retailer of your choice. I also offer a curated printed 5×7 set of 10 photos as an add-on, professionally printed and ready to frame — a beautiful way to bring a piece of Hawaii home.
How far in advance should I book my Hawaii photographer?
For couples and family beach sessions on Oahu, I recommend booking 2–4 weeks in advance. Hawaii is one of the most popular photography destinations in the world, and peak travel seasons — December through March and June through August — fill up quickly. For Hawaii elopements and small beach weddings, booking 1–3 months ahead gives us the best chance of securing your ideal date, location, and lighting conditions.
What is it like to have a photo session with a Hawaii beach photographer?
My sessions are designed to feel nothing like a traditional photoshoot. Think of it as a relaxed golden hour walk along one of Oahu's most beautiful beaches — I'll guide you naturally and gently, and within minutes most clients completely forget the camera is there. No stiff posing, no awkward direction. Just you, the Hawaiian light, and candid moments that feel completely real. Whether it's a couples session, a family beach portrait, or an intimate elopement — the experience is always warm, unhurried, and personal.
Can we choose our own photography location in Hawaii?
Absolutely. I have a curated list of favorite photography locations across Oahu's North Shore and beyond — from secluded sunrise beaches and dramatic lava rock coastlines to lush tropical backdrops and iconic Hawaiian landmarks. I'm happy to recommend the perfect spot based on your vision, the time of day, and the vibe you're going for. You're also welcome to request a specific location if you have one in mind.
What if my kids won't sit still or cooperate during our family session?
Welcome to Hawaii family photography — this is completely normal and honestly makes for the best images. I work entirely at your children's pace, I'm endlessly patient, and I know how to make sessions genuinely fun for little ones. Some of the most treasured family photos come from the in-between moments — a toddler mid-sprint toward the waves, a child distracted by a shell, pure unscripted joy. Don't stress. We've got this.
What is the best time of day for a Hawaii photography session?
Golden hour — the 60 minutes after sunrise or the 60 minutes before sunset — is hands down the best time to shoot in Hawaii. The light is warm, golden, and incredibly flattering on every skin tone. Hawaii's sunsets over the Pacific are world-famous for a reason, and timing your session around that light makes an enormous difference in the final images. I always recommend golden hour for couples sessions, family portraits, and elopements alike.
